My notes on others thoughts about relationship

Sermon Notes

  • Anyone feel like you're chasing after a relationship with God?
  • Is your walk with God seem to be touch and go?
  • How do we move from chasing to just chilling out?

  • How it should be... Illustration #1: Sitting back in your favorite comfy chair in front of a fire place chatting with God like you chat with a best friend.
  • How it seems sometimes... Illustration #2: Believing that God is out there talking with your pastor and that other really religious person at you church. You don't worry because he gets around to you every now and then.

  • The Message: God ready to be there for you whenever you call His name. Even when you don't call on Him, you can allow his presence to always be there. An intimate relationship with God looks a lot like a close relationship with a best friend. That includes laughing, learning, having fun, frustration, and helping others. God's relationship with us also goes beyond what a human friend could ever do in areas that really count like guidance, forgiveness, love, and support. God also works through our communities and friends as well.

  • The Verses:
  • Genesis 3:8 (God was just walking on earth through the Garden of eden to talk to Adam and Eve. This was how God intended his relationship with us to be. Him among us without separation. He designed us to be in constant relationship with Him.)
  • Exodus 3:2 (God comes to Moses whom he had created to lead God's people out of slavery. When we are in constant relationship with God we aren't the only ones talking. God will instruct us on things that he created us to do. Moses task was not something he could have done on his on either. God does not tell us what to do and then leave us hanging. He wants us to keep our relationship with Him constant.)
  • John 3:21 (This verse gives us an image of those that are in the light of Christ. It talks about how His light allows it to be plainly seen what has been done through God. This means that our relationship with God will be plainly seen. Others will know by our love that we have a constant relationship with God. It is an unavoidable side effect.)

  • Luke 12:6-7 (God cares for us and He does not forget us!)

  • Revelation 3:16 (God does not want a touch and go relationship with us. He wants and intimate one where the warmth of His love constantly keeps us warm. When the Lord is our provider what more do we need?
